How is Mother’s Day celebrated in different parts of the world?
Mother’s Day has been celebrated in the United States since the 19th century. In 1914, the second Sunday in May was declared a national holiday to express appreciation for mothers. Since the Middle Age, Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom has been celebrated on the fourth Sunday during the Christian Lent period. Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated by spending time with family and giving cards. Mother’s Day now has a similar tradition to American holidays, encouraging children to present their mothers with gifts, cards, and flowers.
Mother’s Day in Russia is celebrated in the fall, on the last Sunday in November. On this day, children not only present flowers to their mothers but also pay appreciation and congratulations to all mothers in their lives, including grandmothers, mothers-in-law, and aunts.
